Welcome to my page where I share my thoughts on films from a point of view like no other. For years I have studied film, what it takes to make one, and most importantly what makes a film worth seeing. I have worked on movie sets, acted in several independent films, and started reviewing films in 2019. My goal is simply to either persuade you to see a movie or tell you wait for it to go to Netflix.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog

We can finally put the controller down and let Sonic do the running for us. Sonic runs up the box office for its “Feel Good” aesthetics.

Sonic speed is when an object exceeds the speed of sound. At the same speed, you will fall in love with this movie, witnessing sonic up close and personal once again, but this time without a controller. A sweet nostalgia sits heavy in the hearts of many as we pick up on small sayings or actions relating to our favorite hedgehog from childhood, and if you’re new to Sonic, you’ll be in love with the film by time it ends. But discovering his true, lonesome life leaves a twinge in your heart almost instantly when this film begins, showing you that the journey ahead isn’t just to defeat eggman, but to find a place to call home.

Most of us know that Act 1 in the original Sonic Classic is Green Hill Zone, so why not start in Green Hills, Montana, HERE.... on Earth! Right away we see the Internet favorite Baby Sonic and witness how his journey started. We realized early on that these rings are still as stressful as they once were to us when we played the game. Remember when you would end the level and get to the final big ring, and travel to another world ? Well, Without the rings, Sonic can’t runaway to another world in the movie as well.

A moment to remember: Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega Genesis in Green Hill Zone.

A moment to remember: Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega Genesis in Green Hill Zone.

Our beloved Sonic the hedgehog (Ben Schwartz) came in just as quirky as he has always been and his new friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden) aka Donut Lord, is a believer in the blue blur. Sonic is constantly running to new worlds to avoid any danger that can come his way , but when he loses the rings, Tom stumbles in on the journey to get them back with sonic while avoiding the persistent Doctor Eggman (Jim Carrey). When Sonic and Tom realize they have similar issues we begin to notice the way the two characters compliment each other as a duo.

The spotlight goes to Jim Carrey here bringing his style of comedy from when he first started his career. Carrey steps in to the role of Eggman immediately shining his aura of comedic intelligence to us. Making a villain lovable can be tough, but the welcoming aura of Carrey’s comedy brings us to a love/hate relationship with his character Doctor Eggman.

While it may feel like a “Are we there yet?” Scenario at first, this movie is more than likable in my opinion and definitely a must see for the fans of the sonic franchise. Might as well get comfortable, we have more movies for the franchise coming soon anyway. Sonic crosses the finish line with a solid 8/10 for this comedic, heart-felt family movie. I hope the next one introduces us to tails and knuckles as well.
